Part 2 Sequencing and Pattern Building on Korg Electribe

 

  • Real-time vs. Step Sequencing: Toggle between Trigger mode for finger drumming and Sequencer mode for manual step input.

Melodic Input and Scales


  • Enter Keyboard mode to perform musically.

  • You can also use the Touch Pad to perform musically

  • Use the Gate Arp to play arpeggios
    • X axis: Alters the gate speed. 
    • Y axis: Alters the length of sound.




Select musical scales like Harmonic Minor for hip-hop or Mixolydian for jazz. Use Shift + Oscillator knob to jump octaves quickly while in the step sequencer.

• Select the Target Part: First, ensure you have selected the specific part (1–16) that you want to apply the scale to.

• Enable Keyboard Mode: To perform with the pads as if they were keys on a piano, press the Keyboard button. This allows the pads to trigger the sample at different pitches according to the scale you choose.

• Navigate to Pattern Settings: Use the Menu button and the Cursor buttons to find the Key and Scale parameters.

• Adjust the Key: Rotate the Value knob to set the root note (Key) for your pattern. This ensures that your performance is in the correct musical key to match external gear or other patterns.

• Choose the Scale: Use the Value knob to scroll through the available scales. Our previous discussion highlighted that you can select specific scales like Harmonic Minor or Mixolydian to match the genre of your performance.

• Harmonic Matching: By setting these parameters, all melodic input via the trigger pads or the Touch Scale (on the XY pad) will be harmonically constrained to your selection, preventing "wrong" notes during a live set.

Chord Mode: Use the Chord button to play complex harmonies from a single pad. Adjust the Chord Set parameter (1–5) to control the density of the chords produced.

Part 3 - Build songs with Chain Pattern and Set Pattern

Recording longer Patterns To record a pattern that is 2 or 3 measures long on the Korg Electribe Sampler, you must adjust the LENGTH parameter. By default, a pattern is often set to 1 measure (16 steps), but the device allows you to extend this up to 4 measures (64 steps). How to Set the Pattern Length Method 1: Using the Menu  [7]  Press the Menu/Enter button  to access the system settings. Use the Cursor buttons (< , >) to scroll through the parameters until you find LENGTH . Turn the Value knob to change the setting to 2 or 3 (or up to 4) depending on your needs. Press Exit to return to the main screen. Method 2: Using the Button Shortcut [12] Hold the Shift button and press Trigger Pad 2 to jump directly to the LENGTH setting page.
